Help support people with mental illness and their families

Medication Assistance Programs

People who need help to afford their medications do have some sources available. Some medicines are offered free or at reduced cost through programs offered by pharmaceutical manufacturers. In these programs, the manufacturer will typically send the medication directly to a person’s doctor. Many doctors have  information on these programs; otherwise you can find specific information about the medicines available and program requirements from the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, 1-888-477-2669.

In addition to the national programs, a new medicine assistance program called MedShare has just begun operating in certain Cincinnati area health clinics. MedShare participants typically pay a small enrollment fee and a small co-payment for their prescriptions. Not every medication is covered. Only a few of the medications used in the treatment of mental illness are available through MedShare.

People eligible for MedShare are those who:

  • Have no medical insurance
  • Have traditional Medicare with no prescription assistance
  • Have a Medicare HMO with a prescription benefit that has been used up
  • Have a medical card (Medicaid)

MedShare affiliated centers include:

  • East End Community Center 513-321-2212
  • Lincoln Heights Health Center 513-588-3623
  • Mt. Auburn Health Center 513-241-4949
  • Mt. Healthy Family Practice 513-522-7500
  • Walnut Hills/Evanston Med Center 513-281-4116
  • West End Health Center 513-621-2726
  • Jordan Center 513-921-1200

We’d like to thank Karen Grote of the Jordan Center for the information on MedShare.
